Hurricane Creek

Apparently there are LOTs of Hurricane Creeks around, because several people have told me "that place is near my house!"
In actuality, this Hurricane Creek is a 30 mile long, endangered watershed of the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.
It's taken a lot of abuse through the years - illegal dumping, acidic coal company run-off, sewage leaks, siltation from clear cutting,
and currently Friends of Hurricane Creek is trying to fight to relocate a proposed $227 million dollar by-pass which would destroy a section
of the unique scenic beauty and formations at M-Bend. The bypass was slated to cross Hurricane Creek near a waterfall, skirt the creek and
then cross it again below Stone Creek. The creek's watershed is also home to unique plant species that can't be found anywhere else.

This painting was a commissioned piece of an area near the Hwy 216 bridge near Peterson.
*** UPDATE*** This particular piece of property has been acquired by Tuscaloosa County Parks & Recreation.
